Is building a DSML REALLY worth the effort?(Summer School Course)
By: Miguel Goulão
Domain Specific Modeling Languages (DSML) are often claimed to bring significant productivity improvements for practitioners using them, when compared to the baseline alternative they were using before, leading to relevant costs savings. However, most existing evaluations on the costs and benefits of building and adopting a DSML are essentially flawed in that they neglect all the necessary overheads involved in creating and adopting a new language. In this talk, I discuss in detail the concerns practitioners should have before embarking in the development of a new DSL, from the point of view of the associated return on the investment.
