Abstract:

The aggregation of individuals in groups matches a typical behavioral pattern in terms of how connections are established in a social network environment, where there is a large diversity and quantity of information being produced. One way to select useful information is to consider the user organization in groups of individuals, which are interrelated by their characteristics, common interests and interactions. Nonetheless, due to the dynamic nature of these environments, there is a constant need to adapt to ensure the utility of these formed groups. In this work, we propose an approach to evaluate the relevance of the information being produced in the context of user groups in social networks, so we can evaluate the utility of these existing groups. This approach contemplates the following dimensions: information produced by each user within groups; characterization and evaluation of each user’s relevance for the groups; analysis of the relevance of the information shared by the group members. In order to test and validate this approach a tool was be developed, in a specific context of the Facebook social network platform, allowing to illustrate the above mentioned dimensions
